The Man Behind This Portrait

Mohammed Al-Daif has led the military wing of Hamas — the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades — through decades of Israeli siege, bombardment, and assassination attempts. He survived multiple targeted strikes that killed members of his family. His name became synonymous with Palestinian military resistance at a scale the region had not seen in a generation. On October 7, 2023, he commanded the largest Palestinian military operation since 1948.

This portrait captures him as widely known: the keffiyeh wrapped at his neck, the eye patch — the mark of a wound that did not stop him. The piece does not interpret or editorialize. It presents a face and lets the viewer bring what they already know.

How This Portrait Is CNC-Engraved

The portrait is produced by CNC engraving — a rotating bit carves directly into the panel surface at 0.1mm precision, cutting depth by depth to build tonal variation across the face. Lighter areas are the raw surface; darker areas are carved recesses. The result is physical depth, not a print.

The surrounding border uses a repeating geometric pattern drawn from the keffiyeh — the same textile geometry that runs across Palestinian resistance iconography for over a century. Two techniques on one continuous panel: portrait engraving and ornamental carving, executed together, not assembled from parts.

The Keffiyeh as Border

The keffiyeh is not a decorative choice. Since the 1936 Arab Revolt in Palestine, it has been the most recognisable symbol of Palestinian identity and resistance — worn by fighters, civilians, and political leaders as a mark of solidarity. Placing it as the frame around this portrait is a deliberate layering: the man inside the border and the symbol of the cause that surrounds him.

On a wall, this piece reads as tribute. The carved keffiyeh pattern catches light differently at different angles — the geometry shifts between sharp and soft depending on where you stand. It is a frame that demands you look at it, not through it.

Where This Piece Belongs

At 40×40cm (16×16in), this piece works in focused placements — above a desk in a home office, centred on a hallway wall, or as part of a curated gallery wall alongside other pieces that carry cultural or political weight. The high-contrast engraving holds clearly from across a room without competing with surrounding objects.

It suits spaces that carry conviction — rooms where the objects on the walls say something about the person who chose them. It does not belong in a neutral corner. It belongs where it will be seen.

This piece is made to order — each engraving is produced after purchase, not pulled from a shelf. For those who want to give something that carries meaning — as a gift for a birthday, a graduation, or simply because some names deserve to be on the wall — it ships in protective packaging, ready to give.

FAQs

Who is Mohammed Al-Daif?

Mohammed Al-Daif is the commander of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. He has led Palestinian military resistance for over two decades, surviving multiple Israeli assassination attempts. He commanded the October 7, 2023 operation — the largest Palestinian military offensive since 1948.

What does the keffiyeh border on this piece represent?

The keffiyeh has been a symbol of Palestinian identity and resistance since the 1936 Arab Revolt. Using its geometric pattern as the carved border around this portrait is intentional — it places the subject inside the broader symbol of the Palestinian cause. The border is not decoration; it is context.

What technique is used to make this portrait?

The portrait is CNC-engraved — a rotating bit carves directly into the panel surface at 0.1mm precision, building tonal variation through depth rather than ink. The keffiyeh border is carved separately using a repeating geometric pattern. Both are executed on one continuous panel — not printed, not assembled.

What size is this wall art?

This piece comes in one size: 40×40cm (16×16in). It suits focused placements — above a desk, centred on a hallway wall, or as part of a gallery wall with other culturally significant pieces. Custom sizes are not currently available for this design.

How is this piece hung on the wall?

The piece arrives with a sawtooth hanger already attached to the back. One wall nail is all you need. No drilling or wall anchors required for this size. Installation takes under two minutes.

How long does it take to make and ship?

Each piece is made to order after purchase. Production takes 3–5 business days. Shipping time is added on top depending on your location. You will receive a notification when your order is dispatched.

Is this suitable as a gift?

Yes. Every piece is made to order — no two engravings are identical. It ships in protective packaging ready to give. If you want a note included, add it in the order notes at checkout.
